What was that all about?
Yesterday when I was out walking, I heard the church clock strike eight… at four! What was that all about? After the first four, there was a fifth sort of halfhearted one, then three more. Weird.

From one phone provider to another, then back...
Phone providers, internet providers… providers of digital tv… For years now we struggled to switch away from one to another, and now suddenly, we’re going the other way. Twice in just a few months, salespeople from the provider we’re leaving, called and bullied mom, who is severely depressed, into signing up for new expensive services, that we might not even be able to use...

Podcasts and audiobooks
I haven’t really listened to any podcasts and very few audiobooks. Generally, I prefer to read - ordinary paper books, and tv series and movies. However, I think I could get into podcasts (or video podcasts), at least a little, if the subject was one that I’m very interested in. Audiobooks on the other hand, they’re probably not for me. Mom likes them and I’ve tried to...

Simple meme
Here’s a simple Meme…answer the following questions: 1. What Book Are You Reading Now? 2. Why did you choose it? 3. What’s the best thing about it? 4. What’s the worst thing about it? Here are my answers: 1. History of Sweden, part 2 2. I’m very interested in history and when a new series of books - there will be eight eventually - I just felt I had to have all of...

Disliking Gym Says You Are Thoughtful
You are thoughtful, philosophical, and downright cerebral.
For you, gym is too intense and competitive. You aren’t always in the mood for playing hard. You may or may not be into exercise - but any physical movement you do is under your own terms.
You don’t get your happiness through thrills or adrenalin rushes. Your bliss comes from quiet...

Disappointing books
Warning: Self-pity Lately almost all the books I’ve read have been disappointments, at least to some extent. I can’t believe I’ve completely lost my judgment so I can only imagine that somehow the books (or their writers) or I have changed. It’s probably the latter. The me of today has changed too much. I’m sadder and more disillusioned. Maybe if I manage to pull...

More about blogs and homepages
A while back I posted about blogs, social networks etc and I suddenly realized that those old posts have become a little dated. New communities have shown up and others have disappeared. So I thought I’d tell you a little about my favorite sites online and if you’re interested, I hope you’ll enjoy it, or maybe even learn something. Of course, it’s always possible that you...

Cat person? Dog person?
Are you a cat person or a dog person? That’s a question I see a lot. I guess I’d have to say I’m both or rather an animal person, rather than a people person. Someone who gets along much better with animals than with humans, generally. Speaking of animals and people (or persons), I’m thinking animals can be, and are, persons - to me that means individuals rather than homo...

The Princess Myth
I just read this article about the princess myth and if it’s harmful to little girls. Though I liked pink for a while when I was a child and liked to draw princesses too, I’ve never identified with princesses and never wanted to be a dumb, blonde celebrity. My sister and I never played princesses, we were having shipwrecks and went exploring (those were our favorite games). For years...

I get so tired...
Sometimes I get so tired of people. I keep looking for new friends online or offline and many times (fortunately not always - you guys know who you are) the ones who share my interests are the worst. When I go to forums, communities, groups, message boards etc, I seem to run into threads that give me a headache. Self-appointed experts are telling others off for allegedly doing something wrong or...

Animals Matter

In shock
I’m devastated. Yesterday I had really bad news, twice over and I’m still in shock. Can’t tell you too much about it, and I still don’t know the full circumstances in one case and won’t know for a while yet, the full consequences of the second. Lately I’d been managing to stay cheerful, but now I’ve just fallen apart. I don’t know why we always have...

Do Primates Feel Compassion?
I found this article very interesting, and regardless of what it concluded, I would have answered the question with a yes. Clearly other animals can feel compassion, so why not primates, our closest relatives?

Elevator to Space
When I first read about this idea (in a science fiction book) I loved it. Not that I’d ever want to go to the moon, but the idea in itself is so intriguing. Fancy being able to send material up into space, without needing to use a rocket or similar space craft. Just send it up. And now apparently, people are working on making the dream come true. The other day I read about it in this...

Why Dolphins Are Deep Thinkers
I just read an interesting article about dolphins. It seems the more we learn about dolphins, the more intelligent they turn out to be. Which is one reason I’m devastated whenever I read about cruelty against them or any other whale species (no, any species at all, except possibly really evil specimens of homo sapiens…).

Creepy... Cemetaries and weird guys
This afternoon, I went to pick up some books I had ordered. Not that we can afford them, but just this once, we decided it would be alright. When I got to the store - no post offices anymore, which is such a shame, considering that we (Sweden) used to have the oldest postal service in the world, as far as I know - I made a total fool of myself, by not being able to find the text message with the...

What happened?
Today the sun was shining and it was actually quite warm and not windy at all. Very nice in fact. I hurried out so I wouldn’t miss the sunshine. My mom and I went shopping (groceries, nothing more fun). That’s when I was hit with depression. By staying indoors for quite a while (except for bringing in the mail, apples etc or hanging the laundry) I’d sort of been in denial....

Quiz: What kind of book are you?
Before posting this, I debated with myself - should I post this or not? I told myself I was too grown up for this kind of thing. Then I thought wtf? I can be as young as I want. :) So here it is:
You Are Fantasy / Sci Fi You have an amazing imagination, and in your mind, all things are possible. You are open minded, and you find the future exciting. You crave novelty and progress. Compared to...

My books and stuff
On one of my other sites – Moonflower’s Books and Stuff – I’m discussing all my favorite books, authors, tv series, movies and more. That includes actual reviews of a kind. LOL. I’m not promising they’ll be perfect, but if you like you’re welcome to take a look. I am promising that I haven’t forgotten about that site or abandoned it. Eventually, there will be more reviews. Honestly. :)

Cats and Colours
I recently noticed something funny. Cats seem to prefer their own colours. For instance, one of them, who is orange, absolutely loves the colour orange. It doesn’t look that great to me, but she insists on lying on a surface that clashes the most with her own colour. Pink (and similar shades) are ok too, as far as she’s concerned. I keep wanting her to lie (read pose) on something...

Irresistible seeds
Today I noticed that my cockatiel, Alexander, had pecked a hole in a bag of bird seeds I’d bought for him. He was sitting there, eating seeds, looking pleased with himself. And so he should. He’s such a smart bird. I was so impressed. He wasn’t too happy when I poured the contents of the bag into a glass jar though. Oh, well. He’ll get it all, in time. I only wish I’d...

Why your blog should be your book's first draft
In this article, the author suggests that for an unpublished writer, a blog is a good place to post the first draft of a book. The author lists seven reasons why this is a good idea. It was an interesting read and it gave me food for thought, but I’m not sure I agree. Still, it’s certainly something to consider. What do you think? Is it worth a try? Bad idea? What? Tell me what you...

The Only Two Writing Tips You'll Ever Need
I just read this article, and found that I quite agreed with the writer. Sure, there are plenty of other tips that might be useful for some people, but those two are so basic, they deserve to be stated. What are they? Read the article and find out. :)

What is a vegan?
To me, who’s been vegan for several years now, veganism is something so natural and self-explanatory, I hardly even think about it. However, I’ve realized that many people simply don’t have a clue what it is. (And many of those who do, really don’t care, but that’s another story.) So, just in case anyone’s wondering - What is a vegan? And, here’s the...

The nine intelligences
I just read an article about the nine types of intelligence. Just as I’ve always suspected, I belong to the linguistic type, which is all very well in itself. Maybe I’m being unreasonable, but I was kind of hoping I’d have a little of at least one of the others, but it doesn’t look that way, never has. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. Linguistic...

What color are you?
Interesting article about color preferences. As usual, I’m an outsider. I’d say I’m mainly BlueGreen, with quite a bit of Red (I’m a closet Red LOL) and a touch of Yellow (in the last two or three years). There’s also a little bit of Grey, I’m afraid. A psychologist will be able to make something of this, I’m sure. Not sure I’d like to know what...

Digital storage that lasts →
Fascinating about how to keep records (almost) indefinitely. I knew that CD:s and DVD:s weren’t particularly safe, but seeing it like this, is really a wakeup call. What to do? I’m thinking printing out texts and photos and binding them into a book. At least that will do for a time. This might offer an even more permanent solution.
